Over 1200 join in record-breaking Surf Coast Trek

The 2024 Surf Coast Trek is set to break its fundraising records with over 1,200 trekkers signing up for the event held on Saturday 13 April 2024. This is the highest number of participants in the event’s nine-year history.

Enjoying perfect weather conditions, trekkers made their way through the Ironbark Basin, across stunning exposed cliff tops, across long sandy beaches all with sweeping ocean views towards the festival-style finish line at Elephant Walk, Torquay. This year the finish line attracted plenty of local attention, providing food, drinks, music, and kids entertainment which was made even more enticing with the sunshine.

The Surf Coast Trek is the largest fundraising event each year for Kids+ and the Give Where You Live Foundation, supporting the vital services they provide to the Geelong region.
Funds raised are split equally between the two Foundations, which, since its inception in 2016, have raised close to two million dollars for the Geelong-based Foundations.

Fundraising remains open for one month following the event as we push towards the final goal of $300,000.

Give Where You Live CEO, Bill Mithen said the funds raised will assist the Foundation to continue to help create a fairer, more equitable community through a focus on food security, homelessness, and inclusive employment across the Geelong region.

“We’re working hard to create a fairer Geelong and we can only do that with the support of our community. The amazing efforts of all of our 2024 Surf Coast Trekkers will help those most in need in our community. Due to the increased cost of living, we’re seeing more and more individuals and families facing unemployment, homelessness, and struggling to put food on the table.”

Sharon Gibbons, Kids+ Marketing Manager said, “We are proud to work alongside our Give Where You Live Foundation colleagues to bring the Surf Coast Trek to life each year, and this is our biggest year yet with easily our best finish line event. If you were at the finish line on Saturday, you were left in no doubt as to what this event is all about; community, inclusion, and pride in our beautiful Surf Coast. Thank you so much to each and every person who donated, trekked, and supported us along the way. Fundraising will remain open until May 15, so please help us to get to $300,000.”
